Something has been missing for me since I stopped teaching Yoga HIIT - maybe it was the shock and delight and aliveness of feeling sore hamstrings, glutes, abs, and delts waking up and putting my feet on the ground the next morning - maybe it was the rose tinted glasses endorphin high attained after the class that made any challenge the day threw my way feel surmountable - maybe it was the feeling of community when we all knew we had just 30 seconds left of high intensity but were already breathless and gassed.

Whether you harbor an inner fitness junkie, love a good challenge, want to experiment and try something new, or just have been reading about the importance of load bearing and high intensity for heart health, bone density, and lean muscle mass as you get older (hello, perimenopause!) this class is for you!

Adding hand weights to yoga poses is a fantastic way to build lean muscle mass, stabilize joints, and clarify alignment for the hypermobile/flexible student. Interspersing High Intensity Intervals of cardiovascular work throughout strong steady flows with the weights brings the heat. Classes are fluid and strong and weave unconventional multi-planar movements with the weights that target long fascial chains and not just single muscle movers like you might use with weighted machines at the gym. As we age and hormones shift the single most important thing you can do for your metabolism, health, and longevity is to build and maintain lean muscle mass for the health of our joints, bones, and brain. Props needed:

1 band

a pair of “light” weights: 5-10 lb hand weights

a pair of “bigger” weights: 10-30 lb handweights
