Your Retreat Center
Our retreat home is a private sanctuary on the edge of Koggala Lake.
Surrounded by jungle green and the stillness of water, it is a place of modest luxury where space, privacy, and wellbeing come first. This sanctuary is built on the belief that true luxury lies in harmony with nature.
Here, design becomes a gentle companion to the landscape, creating a sanctuary for stillness, connection, and renewal.
13 rooms spread amongst treehouses, suites, and cottages
Each room at our retreat home offers a dialogue with the landscape. Interiors are pared back and calming, designed for rest without distraction, while private terraces and open layouts create a seamless flow between indoors and out. What unites them all is a sense of privacy, space, and connection to nature.
the flow of your days in paradise
Movement, stillness, and reflection unfold against the backdrop of jungle and water. Mornings begin with an energizing vinyasa beneath the palms, in our enclosed bakehouse shala, the air still and bright with birdsong. Days give way to the quiet rituals of the spa, treatments that restore balance and ease. Afternoons we return for restorative and slow flow, diving deeper into rituals of embodiment and slower rhythms of being.
Doctor Pushpa

slow down and Savor
Evenings gather at The Kitchen, where seasonal dishes are crafted with Sri Lankan produce and fresh catch from the waters. It is a natural continuation of our retreat centers’ ethos—food that is thoughtful, refined, and rooted in place.
Your Retreat Sanctuary
We have exclusive access to the retreat center during your time there, so you can really kick back and make yourself at home. Built amidst a dense lakeside forest and bird sanctuary, our resort is renowned for artistic distinction as well, built by the highly regarded local architect Channa Daswatte.
A mere 14 suites and cottages make up the accommodations, which spread out in the landscape around the Kurulu House, and carry on in the style established by the house. They vary from garden-facing suites to unique raised treehouses, and all are built in the tropical modernist style set by the original house. And with just 20 spaces total, you will want to be sure to peruse your options to ensure you get your first pick of rooms.
The spa combines Eastern and Western therapies, and yoga classes are taught in an elevated, open-walled space surrounded by the canopies of frangipani trees and an indoor lake view yoga studio both equipped with Manduka and Rumi mats, bolsters, blocks, straps and Tibetan sound bowls. The Kitchen, similarly open to the breeze, serves three meals a day with views of the lake and a menu inspired by a “sea-to-table” philosophy.
Our retreat home was recently awarded a Michelin Key in the Michelin Guide for excellence in architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, and its role as a cultural ambassador, is in harmony with its surroundings, and contributing to the local experience.

The Food
Awaken your senses. Breakfast, afternoon snacks, and dinner are included in your retreat rate.
Dining on retreat hits different. Float out of practice to a communal dining table, fragrant cooking wafting into the air. After practice, we crave nutrient dense, vibrant, colorful, healthy meals to fuel our active days. On retreat you can really savor and slow down. The dining table becomes a social space to gather and open into heartfelt conversation, savor incredible stories, and make new friends that will last a lifetime.
For our retreat hosts, food isn’t just fuel; it’s a feature of our immersive experience at their retreat center.
The Kitchen at our retreat home embraces a culinary landscape shaped by its sea-to-table philosophy. Mindful attention is placed on an unsurpassed quality of ingredients. The culinary experience is framed by spectacular views over Koggala Lake, accompanied by a fine selection of beverages.
Sourcing fresh seafood and sustainable harvested produce from the surrounding area, prepared in our open kitchen using organic oils and ingredients, served as simple, elegant dishes with a distinctive touch of the chefs. Peek a menu, should you fancy.
Feel, don’t force.
Flowing is allowing life to move back through you. Not resisting. Not holding back. Not forcing.
On the mat, instead of force, we rely on breath. Instead of haste, we use technique. Instead of orienting to the final destination, we orient to the potency of the ever unfolding present moment. We trust and hold reverence for the cumulative process and practice of yoga. We align with a deep inner listening that creates a sense of trust, intimacy, and connection with our own present experience.
A true flow state and a deeper relationship with yoga practice opens when we align with our internal world of feeling instead of imitating shapes. I look forward to meeting you here and seeing where your practice will carry you.
Fluid Energizing Morning Vinyasa: Start your day with an athletic and enlivening Vinyasa Flow to help you feel your most strong, flexible, centered, and free. Drop into a moving meditation under the metronome of your Ujjayi Breathing in an enclosed lake view studio . Expect to sweat, connect to core, and experience a well rounded yoga flow that awakens every sinew and cell.
Afternoon Slow and Low Practice is an invitation to all levels of your Being to slow down, drop everything, and let go. What have you been holding on to in your body for months, years, decades, a lifetime even, that you are finally ready to set down? Our afternoon sessions are experienced low to the ground draped over bolsters, blocks, blankets, a signature blend informed by Yin, Restorative, Somatics, and Deep Tissue Massage. Let the magic of the golden hour light and your deep exhales hold space to guide you deeply inward. This is the magic of retreat: the opportunity to slow down and attune to deeper held sensations that have been longing for your full bodied attention. This isn't a performance and there is no peak pose. It’s slow, careful, personal work. An invitation to come home to yourself. To let yourself sink into feeling. What we can feel we can heal.
Two beautiful yoga shalas (indoor and outdoor), both overlook the sparkling serenity of Koggala Lake. Leave your mat and props (and worries) at home. Our yoga shells are equipped with Manduka and Rumi mats, bolsters, blocks, straps and Tibetan sound bowls — and can accommodate up to 30 participants quite comfortably, though our group will be max of 20.

Our onsite retreat center spa has won international acclaim for both its Western treatments and Ayurvedic approach focusing on the holistic harmony of body, mind, and spirit.

Sun Kissed Joy of Ahangama
Our retreat center home (recently featured in Conde Nast Traveller and as one of the Best Hotels in the World by National Geographic) is located in the coastal town of Ahangama overlooking Koggala lake, one of the largest and most scenic lakes on the island, surrounded by lush greenery and breathtaking views. The golden sand beaches of Kablana and Ahangama are 10 minutes away by Tuk Tuk and there are popular surfing spots all along the coast from Ahangama to Weligama.
An important part of why I chose Ahangama, Sri Lanka as our retreat destination was in response to the dark underside of Bali’s exploitative Tourism I read about as I explored it as a retreat option. Read more here or read on to see what Lucy Kehoe from Suitcase Magazine writes about Ahangma in contrast to Bali:
“Once a laid-back surf enclave, Sri Lanka’s southern coast has evolved into something far more layered. Mirissa and Matara may have the big-name hotels, but it's Ahangama, a sun-drenched town stretched out along a wave-watching coastal road, that’s emerging as the buzziest pocket. Equal parts bohemian beach scene and surf haven, it’s drawing travellers year-round with its boutique stays, barefoot-luxe wellness spots and a rising tide of design-forward restaurants.
This is tropical island life in high-definition: palm-fringed beaches, electric-blue waves and monkeys skittering along telephone lines above the rice paddies. But skip the constant tuk-tuking. Ahangama is a place that rewards slow wandering. Stroll the backroads and you’ll pass sun-drying cinnamon bark, street sellers hawking scarlet rambutans and football-sized jackfruits, and roti stalls dishing out hot, flaky parcels. If you’re lucky, you’ll hear the faint jingle of a Greensleeves-playing bakery van before it trundles by.
Importantly, many of the town’s new businesses – wary of repeating a Bali-style boom in this slow-paced idyll – are doing things differently: hiring local (and training, too), sourcing regional produce, and building with community in mind. At The Kip, you might hear owners Seddy Di Francesco and Phoebe Taylor chatting about the local school they've helped establish just down the road. At Tekanda Lodge, communal dinners often spark conversation about the girls’ cricket club funded by the hotel’s foundation. Spend an evening at chef Dom Fernando’s new taco joint, Frida, and you’ll quickly learn it’s staffed by locals – including, unusually for the island, women in front-of-house roles trained by Fernando himself.”
Quick Travel Facts:
Ahangama’s Dry season is from December to March, picture-perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and exploring the coast
Driving distance Colombo Airport to our retreat center: about 2 hours (depending on traffic)
TukTuk distance from our retreat center to the golden beaches of Ahangama: about 10 minutes

Additional Optional Activities: Surf Lessons, Tea Plantation Tours, Ayurvedic Consultations, Koggala Lake boat trip (temple, cinnamon island, fish spa), Yatagala Temple visit, Catamaran Tour, Tour to Galle Fort (30 min away)
"Lily provides an invigorating, transformative yoga practice and a holistic approach that invites retreaters to uncover, work through, and renew their life energy. To me, this is what a yoga retreat is all about."
-Liz Lord, Maryland
a note from your guide:
With 18 years experience leading yoga retreats all over the world - from Maui, Hawaii to Positano, Italy to NorCal Wine Country to the Greek Cycladic Islands - one thing I love about retreats is how different settings inspire our yoga practice, tenderize our hearts, and open our minds. Both travel and yoga are catalysts to shift perspective, open our life force where we feel blocked or stagnant, and realign with meaning and direction in our lives.
So often in the hustle and stress of life back home, we disconnect from three threads that support and uplift our wellbeing: connection to nature, connection to creative embodiment, and meaningful connection to community that fosters a profound sense of belonging and joy.
On retreat, I love seeing students faces relax and years of tension and deeply embedded stress melt off folks’ shoulders as they deepen into the magic of retreat and let the magic of yoga wash over them like a healing salve.
Choosing to come on retreat means we must consciously choose to close down some of the pulls on our attention back home - and this allows us to open the door to a deeper relationship to embodiment and spirit through yoga immersion, self inquiry, meditation, compassion, humor, and open-ended time and space in nature to feel it all. The version of self that returns home is inevitably rearranged, awakened, and transformed by the experience of retreating. A retreat is unlike any other form of travel. Retreats are my favorite way to share yoga practice so that it touches all layers of Being most profoundly. Celebrate a newfound connection to the vibrancy within your body, mind, and soul by joining us on a sacred journey inward.
"Lily has an almost prescient way to meet her students 'where they are' with respect to language, modifications and assists. I came away from the retreat feeling stronger in my practice, yet content with where I am and with a clear path to how I might get there."
-Karen McKenna, Maryland

Tips and Gratuities
At the end of the retreat, you can leave a tip for the resort staff in cash or credit card. I generally recommend $10/day at your discretion.
COVID-19
We will provide no refund or other reimbursement to you if you are unable to participate in the Yoga Retreat due to illness such as COVID 19 prior to trip departure or during the Yoga Retreat but reimbursement can typically be sought from most travel insurance policies. (We strongly suggest you purchase Trade Insurance) If you test positive for Covid while on Yoga Retreat, you agree to obtain your own private room to quarantine. For these reasons, you should inquire as to your coverage regarding Covid with your travel and health insurance carriers.
Passports, Visas, Documents
It is your responsibility to obtain all required travel documents including but not limited to Passports, Driver's Licenses, and Immunization Records associated with any destination. For many countries, passports must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the duration of the trip.

I love that you care to ask!
A big part of my decision to partner with our retreat center is the integrity of their eco-conscious approach to running a resort.
Our resort is an eco-resort, situated around a bird preserve. It uses renewable energy, avoids single-use plastics, uses non-toxic cleaning products, and implements various other eco-conscious practices. It is a luxury eco retreat in Sri Lanka that blends sustainable living with modern amenities.

Cancellation Policy
Your $1,000 Deposit is Non Refundable and Non Transferrable. Please be sure to read your Retreat Contract for our full Cancellation Policy. Since third party vendors and resorts are paid in advance, we must adhere strictly to this policy to maintain the exceptional standards of our retreats.
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is not included and highly recommended. You are responsible for purchasing your own travel insurance policy for the retreat, all corresponding travel expenses, and medical care abroad. If you cancel due to unforeseen illness or personal or family emergency before or during the retreat (including COVID 19, pregnancy, surgery or injury), miss part of the retreat due to travel delays, lose luggage or have a delayed luggage, or require medical care abroad, we cannot reimburse you, however your personal travel insurance policy typically can.
Please note many travel insurance companies require you to purchase a policy within 14-21 days of any initial deposit for the trip.
